Preparations

Our visa applications were mailed off this week to the Tanzanian embassy, so we're waiting on those to come back.

In the meantime, we're making plans not only for our activities while based in Moshi, but also for weekend sightseeing elsewhere in Tanzania, including Ngorongoro Crater, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, and Mount Meru.

J (7th grade) is working on a school project related to our upcoming trip. They are studying the African continent and have to report on a nonprofit that operates in Africa, so naturally he chose HVO, and out of a hat he picked the nation of Tanzania.

So far we've read the Lonely Planet guidebook for Tanzania, and have connected by email with a safari guide recommended by friends who are experienced medical volunteers in Africa and who helped open the KCMC program in Moshi.

  1. We live by LonelyPlanet guidebooks on all our excursions. It rarely fails us.
